This is a "Haida"-style totem pole and starts with a beaver, surmounted by a grizzly bear, a raven and topped by four watchmen.

The tree for this pole came from the base of Mount Adams in southwest Washington and was a gift of the Weyerhaeuser Company. The artist carved the pole for $1,500  at the Hilllvilla Restaurant on SW Terwilliger Boulevard in 1961 and it took six weeks to complete. Iron supports were set into the concrete base to ensure stability.

Emily thought it was COOL!
